Process Engineer

At ChainCraft, we are turning chemistry circular. We develop sustainable biotechnological processes that convert organic waste into valuable bio-based fatty acids. Our scale-up is entering an exciting growth phase and we are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to strengthen our engineering team and help bring our technology to full commercial scale.

We’re looking for a hands-on and technically strong process engineer with a background in chemical process development and scale-up. In this role, you will work on the design and implementation of new installations, optimize existing processes, and contribute directly to the success of our commercial plant (FS-1) in Ter Apelkanaal.

What will you do?
• Design, scale up, and optimize fermentation-based processes.
• Develop and review process documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, specs). Contribute to basic engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Work closely with engineering partners, suppliers, and internal R&D and operations teams.
• Support pilot, demo, and production campaigns.
• Coach operators and support documentation, and training.
• Monitor and improve process performance and efficiency.
• Contribute to safety, quality processes, and assessments.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians.

What do you bring?
You combine strong theoretical knowledge with practical engineering skills and enjoy working in a dynamic environment with high impact. You’re solution-oriented and take ownership of your work from design through implementation.
• MSc in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or similar.
• 5–7 years of experience in process development, design, and scale-up.
• Hands-on experience with unit operations and scale-up (pre-FEED, FEED).
• Strong background in thermodynamics, heat/mass transfer and modelling.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus (or willingness to learn).
